To ensure the longevity and quality of your tape-in hair extensions, we recommend using only LullaBellz Hair Care products when maintaining your hair extensions. These include the LullaBellz Hair Shampoo, LullaBellz Hair Conditioner and LullaBellz Revive and Thrive Cream. Our other care and maintenance advice includes:
1. Always Use the Right Hair Products
- Sulfate-Free Shampoo and Conditioner: Use sulfate-free, paraben-free, and alcohol-free shampoos and conditioners to avoid stripping moisture from the extensions and weakening the adhesive bonds.
- Avoid Heavy Conditioners on the Roots: Apply conditioner from mid-lengths to ends only. Avoid applying conditioner near the adhesive tapes as it can cause them to slip or weaken.
This is specifically why we only recommend LullaBellz Hair care products when maintaining your hair extensions.
2. Gentle Brushing
- Brush Before Washing: Detangle your hair before getting it wet to prevent matting and tangling.
- Use a Wide-Tooth Comb: Use a gentle, extension-friendly brush (like our Hollywood Wave Comb) to detangle your hair. Start from the ends and work your way up to the roots.
- Avoid Brushing Wet Hair: Wet hair is more prone to breakage. If needed, brush hair gently when damp, using a leave-in conditioner or detangling spray for ease.
4. Drying Your Extensions
- Pat Dry Gently: After washing, gently pat your hair dry with a soft towel instead of rubbing it. Avoid twisting the hair to prevent stress on the adhesive tapes.
- Blow Dry Safely: Always blow dry the roots to ensure the tapes are completely dry. Use a low to medium heat setting, as excessive heat can damage the adhesive. If you prefer air drying, make sure the roots are dried first.
5. Avoid Excessive Heat
- Heat Protection: Always use a heat protectant spray before using any heat-styling tools like flat irons, curling irons, or blow dryers.
- Keep Heat Away from Tapes: When using styling tools, keep the heat away from the adhesive areas to prevent weakening the bond.
6. Sleep Care
- Braid or Tie Hair in a Loose Ponytail: Before bed, tie your hair into a loose braid or ponytail to prevent tangling. This helps keep your extensions neat and reduces strain on the adhesive tapes.
- Use a Silk Pillowcase: Sleeping on a silk pillowcase reduces friction, helping to maintain the smooth texture of your extensions and reducing tangles.
7. Avoid Oily Products Near the Roots
Avoid applying oils, serums, or any heavy styling products near the adhesive tapes as these can weaken the adhesive and cause slippage. Use lightweight products on the mid-lengths to ends only.
8. Regular Maintenance Appointments
- Reapplication Every 6-8 Weeks: Schedule maintenance appointments every 6-8 weeks to move up the extensions as your natural hair grows. During these appointments, your stylist will remove, re-tape, and reapply the extensions.
- Professional Removal Only: Always have your extensions removed by a professional using the proper adhesive remover to prevent damage to your natural hair.
9. Avoid Excessive Moisture
Be mindful of excessive moisture from swimming pools, saunas, or the ocean. Chlorine and salt water can affect the adhesive and the quality of the hair. If you swim, wear a swim cap or keep your hair tied up and rinse it immediately afterward.
